Welcome to MOKAN

Mark was not only the founder of MOKAN Schutzhund but also its sustainer through the lean times as well as the prosperous ones.  He gave generously of his time to every serious handler and his or her dog.  Frequently he would meet an individual club member at the training field on non club days to help him or her prepare for an upcoming trial or to get through a difficult problem.  Always encouraging he would never give up on a dog team that truly wanted to train.  Many were the rough spots that he propelled each of us through, making us have fun at the same time. He was our leader, our trainer, our chief supporter, our very good friend and will be sadly missed by each and everyone of us.

Boy Biting Mark       The MO-Kan Schutzhund Association was founded in April of 1978.  Two of the driving forces in the formation of the club were Bob and Elaine Sawtell, and ret. LtCol William Gore (deceased).  Some of the other members of this forming club were Juanita (then McQueen) Sarafini, Denise Alexander, Mark and Debbie Przybylski and many others.  The club trained in Kansas City, at the Raytown Police Dog training grounds twice a week and at our highest point boasted over 50 members.

In early 1980 we moved our training to Leavenworth, Kansas to the home of our President William Gore. In 1981 we moved the location of the club once again to Faucet, MO at the home of Juanita McQueen where it stayed for several years.  In 1988 the club was relocated to St. Joseph, MO where it remains today.  After training at various locations within the city the club settled at a large and private training area owned by Dot Miriani that we are all very fortunate and lucky to have.

Although our Member list is of more modest numbers compared to those of the late 70's, our membership is comprised of very enthusiastic, and dedicated handlers that love the sport of Schutzhund. Over the past years MO-Kan has had 4 members qualify for the USA Nationals, with 3 competing, Four members of the USA SchH 3 Club, 3 Mid-Central Regional Directors (one of which is currently serving as regional director), and two current teaching helpers.  Currently all but four members have titled dogs in schutzhund, with the remaining well on there way or just starting in the sport with new puppies.  A full member list and member profile is included in the Members section of this site.

Mo-Kan will be hard at work preparing for the club's fall trial in October and other various trials, Training every weekend.  you will find training times and location in the "Training" section of this site. If you are interested in the sport of Schutzhund please come by for a visit and some training at the Mo-Kan Schutzhund Association!
